The Process

Orthotists and Prosthetists will work through a series of steps including a careful assessment of physical needs and relevant medical history. The practitioner places considerable importance on listening to the expressed wishes regarding the treatment outcome. To achieve these goals, plans are developed based on the referral, clinical assessment, the best available evidence and patient input.

When a custom made Orthosis or Prosthesis is required, the practitioner will take a series of body measurements which may include the application of a plaster cast. If a prefabricated option is chosen, the practitioner will measure, order and integrate accordingly. Practitioners work in cooperation with trained Prosthetic and Orthotic Technicians to provide the best orthotic or prosthetic treatment for your needs.

An Ongoing Relationship

During the fabrication and integration phases of treatment, frequent visits for adjustments or training may be necessary. After this initial stage, however, continual evaluations are often required to ensure long-term success.

Finances

It is important to have a thorough understanding of the costs associated with care. Both private insurance and PharmaCare benefits may provide coverage for prosthesis or orthosis and the professional services. In cases of partial coverage, the patient is responsible for the remainder.
